Hi,
I'd like to use existing maildir folders I have for Sup's sent and
draft folders, but I couldn't find a way how. Is this possible? I am
surprised this is not a FAQ. :)
Apologies for the total noob question. I'm liking what I see in Sup so far.

For sent, yes. For drafts, not yet. Using sup-config you can select
the sent source, or you could edit config.yaml by hand. The line in
my config is this:
:sent_source: maildir:///u/bwalton/Maildir/.sent-mail/
I defined a source with that URI and then set the value in
config.yaml. My outbound mail is then stored in that Maildir folder.
Only some sources work for mail storage. These are mbox, Maildir and
IMAP. I'd advise against having anything else write to the same mbox
(eg: don't have new mail delivered to the same source) if you go with
an mbox URI.
I'm not sure whether the official release includes this functionality
yet or not as I run from git:next. I _think_ 0.8.1 included it, but
would have to actually check.

It doesn't appear to. At least, setting sup-config didn't give me any
option to, and setting it in my config.yaml didn't seem to work
either.
How safe is building and running from git master? Is there a general
philosophy about its stability? I'm a hacker, but I'm not strong in
Ruby and I am not sure yet that I want to hack on my mailer. ;)

Pretty safe. I merge all changes into next first, which is where people
see breakage, and only merge them into master when they've baked long
enough.

Why? Would sup not lock the mbox properly?

No, it wouldn't. I've got a half-baked LockManager branch sitting
around, but I haven't touched it for some time now. I don't use any
mbox here myself so it's not a personal itch.
As it stands, the LockManager code has the basic ability to do
locking using three lock types. I haven't worked out the nicest way
to stack them (ala dovecot) though in a way that will play nicely with
threads _and_ allow for non-block-wrapped calling.

This is interesting. It might have happened to me too, but since all
of the mail in that folder was historically sent, I either didn't
notice (since it was already archived) or this is a new issue.

Sup doesn't lock the sent mbox currently. It wouldn't be too hard to
add. I'm still waiting for Ben to provide a nice refactoring patch for
me. :)
