I've been meaning to respond to this the day this was posted. Rich Lane thank you, thank you. Ferret was one of by biggest gripes of using sup. I've used it elsewhere and it's a shocker; I eventually migrated it all to Xapian which has worked flawlessly since. I used to rebuild by ferret index almost on a weekly basis (I'm running debian unstable, which at the moment is really living up to it's name) at one stage something I haven't had to do once since migrating to Xapian. I got it work with 1.9 once but there are some problems that I just haven't had the time to look into but I will do and post any problems to the list. rgh
