Try Ctrl+L for the redraw.  Saves having sup do any work at all.  This
is also good for when the display gets corrupted in screen.  It's a
pretty standard sequence too, so you may find it applicable elsewhere
(eg: it'll clear your terminal for you, redraw and centre a buffer in
emacs, etc).
